Elliptical Trainers Help You Reach Your Weight Loss Goals

September 1st, 2010

If you are working toward a weight loss goal, you know how important diet is in helping you reach it. But what about exercise? Incorporating regular exercise into your lifestyle will help you look and feel better in less time than dieting alone.

But what type of exercise is right for you? Elliptical Trainers can be wonderful to help you lose weight, and good models are available for low prices, so you can own one and exercise at home.

Elliptical trainers combine multiple forms of actions including cross country skiing, bicycling and rowing. They cause you to use all of your major muscle groups in a consistent and fluid motion that does not have much impact. Quality elliptical trainers will not have jerky motions and they are smooth and therefore quiet, which results in a more peaceful workout.

Most elliptical trainers have a readout that shows your calories used, mileage, time, and heart rate. They allow you to watch television or even catch up on some reading while you are working out, so it is very easy to include your work out into your daily routine. Remember – the more you work out, the faster you lose weight.

Because elliptical trainers allow you to work your upper and lower body muscle groups together, you will not be bored during your workout. Also, you do not have to buy several machines or spend hours at the gym working individual muscle groups.

Some quality ellipticals allow you to chart your weight loss progress, which can be an excellent motivational strategy. When it comes to exercising to burn calories, elliptical trainers will have you on your way to your weight loss goal in no time.

Elliptical Machine Secrets – How You Lose Weight Using an Elliptical Trainer

August 31st, 2010

You may have already heard about the great benefits of the elliptical machine workouts. Possibly, you may have been dragged here by the fact that you are looking for an easy, but highly effective way of losing some pounds by burning fat. Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place. This article will tell you some top elliptical machine secrets for weight loss.

Weight Loss And Elliptical Machine Secrets

One of the best benefits of doing some elliptical machine workouts is its cardio-vascular training. And as you may already know, any cardio-vascular routine is very friendly for the body as it is strenuous and demanding enough to really workout not only your limb muscles, but more especially your heart. This is also the first way in the elliptical machine works for weight loss.

How? As your heart rate increases, your metabolic rate also rises. This is why continuous training helps a lot in your digestive system. With Faster metabolism, your body will not get a chance to store a lot of fat in your body, in turn, allowing you to lose weight.

Another way this exercise equipment helps in weight loss is mostly due to the efficient elliptical trainer calorie burning process. As your body gets involved in more action (both upper and lower bodies get strenuous enough workouts), more energy will be required to be produced. As you may also know, calories are the source of the body’s energy, which is why elliptical machine workouts demand more calories to be burned.

To help you understand this concept more, here are some more elaborate explanations. It is already given that the body produces energy by burning calories, right? So, by performing tiring tasks, your body will need to compensate and produce more energy, which will now make use of your calorie intake. So, if you have taken in three hundred and eighty seven calories, about thirty minutes on the elliptic trainer will be needed to burn all of those calories.

This might not make too much sense unless you havent used the machine. Nevertheless, as some may already know, this is a pretty much easy concept as there is a built-in elliptic machine calorie chart that will help the user determine an estimate of the calories they burn per session. Although, this will really vary from person to person, the main point here is, elliptic trainer calorie burn is guaranteed, whoever you are, whatever built and weight you have.

The biggest elliptical machine secret is ‘Lower perceived exertion’

You see, the machine is well designed to be friendly to your body’s movements, helping you exert less effort as it easily works and optimizes your actions and exertions. This is really great because you wouldn’t feel that much tired when you stay for thirty minutes on an elliptical trainer as compared to a thirty minute workout on the stationary bike, even though you did the same amount of exercise. Now, this is really the biggest reason why elliptical trainer calorie burn is more effective than with any other exercise equipment.

However, if you plan to have one on your home, make sure you get the high quality machine, so you can get the most out of your money and give the best for your body.

Avoid the Weight Loss Plateau

July 16th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the things most people will do when trying to lose weight is stick to a specific cardiovascular machine, such as a treadmill or elliptical trainer. Although these are excellent machines for cardio training, the problem is actually with the workout. People who use these machines will often stick to the same workout day after day without switching.

The problem with non-variance in your cardio workout is that you are not able to continuously keep burning that body fat. What this means is that you are building your cardiovascular endurance, which is ultimately a great thing but you will find that your rate of progress with your weight loss objectives will slow down. This is against what you would normally want, at least until you reach a state in your fitness where you are comfortable with your body weight and improving endurance and increasing strength now take a higher priority.

One of the best ways to keep your rate of weight loss accelerating throughout your fitness plan is to switch cardio machines. This means starting out with a heavy duty treadmill workout and sticking to it for roughly three to four weeks and right at that time, when your body is becoming accustomed to the workout, switch to another machine, such as an elliptical trainer. Stick to the same workout for the next three to four weeks and switch again, preferably to another cardio machine (such as a stepper or bike).

By alternating your cardio workout machines, your body and cardiovascular system is never able to fully adapt to the workouts you throw at it. The different machines operate differently, so moving from a treadmill where there is higher impact and next to no upper-body resistance and then to an elliptical where there is will be something of a shock to your body. You will feel as though you have fallen off your fitness wagon.

Another technique if you have limited access to cardio machines is to switch the workout itself. This could mean that instead of have X number of intervals and intensity levels of A-B-C-D-E-F, you reduce or increase your intervals and switch your intensity levels up, say to A-F-C-D-B-E or some concoction thereof.

Ideally however, you should consider using two different types of cardio machines and alternating your workouts as well. At first, it may be easier to switch at the four-week mark as your body will have had at least some time to adapt to the machine and routine in the first place — at three weeks it will be one tough workout after another, not very motivating to get beaten up by those machines, especially for a newcomer.

Prevent Weight Gain

July 15th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Prevention is always better than cure and if you are prone to gaining weight then these three simple tips will help towards staving off any erroneous pounds. It goes without saying exercise is one of the pre-dominant factors to keeping your waistline stable and by joining one of your local gyms or health clubs will help combat the effects of over-indulgence.

Balance your diet

Slow release energy foods that are low on the glycemic index will help prevent weight, these include fresh fruit, vegetables, lean meats such as fish and chicken and not forgetting the whole grains. You also need to think about complex carbohydrates in the form of brown rice and wholemeal bread, these foods release energy slowly, helping you to prevent weight gain. You also need to take into account how you eat your food, ideally you should eat little and often and also combine your protein with your carbohydrates to allow the energy to be released over a longer period. Also if you go without eating for longer than three hours, this can trigger the fat storage.

Get exercising

A lot of people believe that cardio is what maintains weight, cardio exercise such as running and walking actually burns fat, but it’s using weights which keeps the fat off as the more toned the muscle the more metabolically active it becomes, thus your body becomes a lean mean fat burning machine. Ideally you should join one of your local gyms or health clubs and incorporate weight-training session four times a week with additional vigorous walking as often as possible. In as little as 2 weeks you will see an improvement in muscle tone.

Avoid stress

Exercise releases feel good chemicals into our brain and this helps to relax your mind as stress is not good for maintaining a healthy body. When anxiety levels rise in your body this increases the levels of the hormone cortisol, if this happens numerous times then the body will store fat around the middle. As most of our anxieties and stress come from modern living and not from life threatening situations, each time our cortisol is released it sits on the waistline ready to be used for an emergency, such as running away from a dangerous situation. If this energy is not used, it will still stay sitting there and the cycle of weight gain begins. If your anxiety levels rise ensure that you burn off that feeling by going for a walk or even punching the air numerous times to release the energy.

Maintaining your weight is much easier than losing weight, these three simple approaches can be used to lose weight and to ensure that you keep your body in a fit state.

Elliptical Machines Can Help Lose Pregnancy Weight

July 13th, 2010

So you have just given birth to your newly born boy or girl and the last thing on your mind is, “how am i going to get back into shape again?” Whether it is your first born or you have experienced child birth before, you will know that every moment of the day and night will be spent tending to your new bundle of joy. In those first few weeks, even months you will have likely experienced a great deal of fatigue and will not be ready or have the motivation to begin exercising again. Only you will know and depending on the birthing method you used to give birth, only you will be able to tell if your body is ready for aerobic exercise. Always consult your doctor before you begin your new workout routine.

When the time finally comes and you want to feel good about your body again, the best investment you can make is in an elliptical machine. Your body will still be fragile but with the low impact cardio workout that elliptical machines provide, you can begin on a light intensity workout plan and slowly build on this until you are ready for high intensity workouts.

You know yourself that you will not be able to plan your workouts. The joy of owning an elliptical machine in your home is that when your new born is asleep or hubby is there to take over, you can make use of this time. The likelihood is that your child may need your attention but at least you are present to tend to their needs immediately and you can still feel good that you have targeted those wobbly bits and burnt those calories.

In comparison to treadmills, elliptical machines have a lot more to offer. The smooth oscillating motion of the dual action handles and foot pedals is not only easier on the body but it works the upper and lower body. In essence you are benefiting from a complete body workout and with the ability to reverse the motion, different muscles are targeted.

Working out at home on elliptical machines could not come at a better time for women carrying pregnancy weight. Given time to let your body heal from the birth, with the complete body workout and effective calorie burn that your elliptical machine will provide, you will be well on your way to obtaining that toned yummy mummy body.

The 10 Minute Weight Loss Workout

July 3rd, 2010

Here is a quick workout which will allow you to burn TONS of calories as well as stimulate muscle growth. It only takes about 10 minutes to complete and you don’t even need to go to a gym to do it! These exercises do not require any weights, only your own bodyweight and a desire for a better, healthier body.

10 Minute Weight Loss Workout

Exercise 1: Rocket Jumps

To do a rocket jump, simply space your feet a little more than shoulder width apart. Keeping your back straight and chin tucked in, lower yourself until you are in a position where it seems like you are sitting in a chair (without the chair, obviously). Lower yourself slowly. Try to take about 3-4 seconds to move from the starting position (standing) to the end position (almost seated).

When you are in the end position you are going to explode upwards with all your force. Try to jump as high as you possibly can, and then land softly. Once you land, immediately begin doing another rocket jump.

Try doing 2 sets of 5 to begin with. You can obviously increase this if your fitness levels can handle it.

Exercise 2: Burpees

Burpees are the ultimate quick weight loss exercise. You are going to burn TONS and TONS of calories with them. If you are not sure how to do this exercise, just do a quick search for “burpee exercise” or something of the like.

Do as many as you can in 2 minutes. I recommend throwing on some music to make the workout a little more enjoyable!

Make sure you stretch before this workout. In all, it should only take you about 10-12 minutes to complete. Don’t forget to drink a protein shake after!

Remember – if you HAVEN’T been able to lose weight before…it’s NOT your fault! Knowledge is POWER, and the most important step on the path to a firm, fit & beautiful body is information, EDUCATION and empowerment!

Is This The Best Exercise To Lose Weight?

June 12th, 2010

The best exercise to lose weight is probably not what you think. This may be surprising to you, but one of the biggest myths about exercising is that you have to sweat bullets to lose weight and burn fat. Actually, low-intensity cardio workouts that are varied by interval levels will help your body to burn a higher percentage of calories from fat.

The best fat burning workouts start with a slow, aerobic exercise where you increase the intensity level for a period and then return to back the slower pace. These workouts involve most major muscle groups so they are much more effective at burning body fat.

If you only do high intensity workouts, your body will burn more sugar instead of burning fat, because the body needs quick energy. Sugar from the food in your system will deliver that quick energy that your body is craving much quicker than fat.

Basketball, running, racquetball, and playing tennis and other high intensity workouts can definitely benefit your overall fitness, but those types of exercises will not burn as much body fat because your body makes better use of the sugar in your system for quick energy.

So, low-intensity cardio workouts where you vary your intensity level are actually the best fat burning workouts because these types of exercises require slow but steady fuel and your body will eventually start burning stored fat for the energy it requires.

Walking at different speeds, cycling, swimming, elliptical trainer workouts, and different treadmill workouts are all good examples of good fat burning workouts. Just remember to vary the levels of intensity to get the best fat burning results from your workout.

Exercises like these will ramp up your metabolism, meaning that you will continue to burn fat long after the workout is done. People who exercise regularly produce a greater amount of fat burning enzymes than those who don’t exercise.

Long workouts are not necessarily required. You can start with just twenty minutes of a good fat burning workout to get the fat burning enzymes going. Once your level of fitness gets better, you can eventually add more time to your workout. For beginners, 3 days a week would be a good start, gradually working up to 5 days as your fitness level improves.

Treadmills and elliptical trainers are the most popular fitness equipment for home workouts because they allow you to stay fit in any weather condition and the whole family can use them. If you don’t have time to go to the gym, they are an ideal alternative and quality fitness equipment will last for many years.

Stationary bikes provide for great fat burning workouts. They are easy to change the intensity for greater resistance as well as lowering resistance to achieve the variations that you need in your workouts.

These small changes in the way you workout can make a lot of difference in how much body fat you can burn. Start using the best fat burning workouts that work best for you and you can turbo charge your metabolism and burn maximum body fat to make every workout count.
