Elliptical Machine Secrets – How You Lose Weight Using an Elliptical Trainer

August 31st, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You may have already heard about the great benefits of the elliptical machine workouts. Possibly, you may have been dragged here by the fact that you are looking for an easy, but highly effective way of losing some pounds by burning fat. Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place. This article will tell you some top elliptical machine secrets for weight loss.

Weight Loss And Elliptical Machine Secrets

One of the best benefits of doing some elliptical machine workouts is its cardio-vascular training. And as you may already know, any cardio-vascular routine is very friendly for the body as it is strenuous and demanding enough to really workout not only your limb muscles, but more especially your heart. This is also the first way in the elliptical machine works for weight loss.

How? As your heart rate increases, your metabolic rate also rises. This is why continuous training helps a lot in your digestive system. With Faster metabolism, your body will not get a chance to store a lot of fat in your body, in turn, allowing you to lose weight.

Another way this exercise equipment helps in weight loss is mostly due to the efficient elliptical trainer calorie burning process. As your body gets involved in more action (both upper and lower bodies get strenuous enough workouts), more energy will be required to be produced. As you may also know, calories are the source of the body’s energy, which is why elliptical machine workouts demand more calories to be burned.

To help you understand this concept more, here are some more elaborate explanations. It is already given that the body produces energy by burning calories, right? So, by performing tiring tasks, your body will need to compensate and produce more energy, which will now make use of your calorie intake. So, if you have taken in three hundred and eighty seven calories, about thirty minutes on the elliptic trainer will be needed to burn all of those calories.

This might not make too much sense unless you havent used the machine. Nevertheless, as some may already know, this is a pretty much easy concept as there is a built-in elliptic machine calorie chart that will help the user determine an estimate of the calories they burn per session. Although, this will really vary from person to person, the main point here is, elliptic trainer calorie burn is guaranteed, whoever you are, whatever built and weight you have.

The biggest elliptical machine secret is ‘Lower perceived exertion’

You see, the machine is well designed to be friendly to your body’s movements, helping you exert less effort as it easily works and optimizes your actions and exertions. This is really great because you wouldn’t feel that much tired when you stay for thirty minutes on an elliptical trainer as compared to a thirty minute workout on the stationary bike, even though you did the same amount of exercise. Now, this is really the biggest reason why elliptical trainer calorie burn is more effective than with any other exercise equipment.

However, if you plan to have one on your home, make sure you get the high quality machine, so you can get the most out of your money and give the best for your body.

6 Factors to Consider When Buying an Elliptical Trainer

August 26th, 2010

There are several reasons ellipticals are one of the fastest growing fitness equipment machines in terms of popularity. In a nutshell: low impact workouts and full body workouts.

The huge convenience of having an elliptical trainer in your home or office cannot be overstated. The fact you can watch any TV program you want while working out is a luxury that doesn’t cost very much.

What should you look for when buying an elliptical trainer?

1. Price: Plan on spending at least $500. If you want a solid elliptical, spend $1,000. Don’t forget to shop around for some sales because fitness equipment prices are often discounted significantly.

2. You need the proper stride length for your height. If multiple people will use it, then get an elliptical with adjustable stride length. I personally would pay more for adjustable stride length because I always look for flexibility with the exercise equipment I buy.

3. For a smoother stride, get a rear-drive elliptical. For more foot-pedal ergonomics, get a front-drive. Go to a gym or retail store and try out a couple ellipticals to see what style you like.

4. You want an elliptical so you can work out your upper body. Not all ellipticals have movable handles. Don’t assume they all do. Be aware of this.

5. If you like directed workouts, study the workout programs that come with your elliptical. You may even look for ellipticals that are iFit compatible for an incredible array of directed workouts.

6. If you aren’t handy, spring for the in-home delivery and assembly. It costs extra but will save you a lot of hassle.

Don’t forget to measure your ceiling height and then how elevated you’ll be on the elliptical. The last thing you want to do is whack your head using your elliptical.

Whether you’re trying to lose weight, get fit, cross train, or are a competitive athlete, an elliptical trainer can be an excellent fitness machine to use in your workout regimen.

Elliptical Trainer Clothing – Dressing For Success

August 25th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Many people fret over what to wear when exercising. All things being equal, this is perhaps the easiest part of putting your exercise program together. It’s true that different athletic activities have their own dress and gear requirements. Football and baseball each have their own types of uniforms and equipment. So do you need to have different workout clothing and footwear when exercising on an elliptical trainer than when running on a treadmill?

There are two components to workout attire – clothing and footwear. Since you will typically be using your elliptical trainer indoors, a hat is purely optional. If you’ve decided to setup your elliptical trainer in the great outdoors, then please take the proper precautions to protect yourself against the sun’s harmful rays. This means head covering, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Clothing should be comfortable. It should not be tight or restrictive in any way and should absorb sweat from your body. This will keep you cool and also prevent bacteria buildup on your skin, which can cause acne.

Forget about special “sweat” suits that claim to make you sweat away pounds while you exercise. They’ll just make you uncomfortable and distract from your workout. A cotton tee shirt and loose fitting gym shorts will do just fine in most cases. During the colder months a pair of fleece sweat pants and a sweatshirt will keep your joints and muscles warm while you exercise. Even during the summer months you should avoid drafts and strive to keep your muscles and joints warm. Avoid using a fan to keep yourself cool. It’s better to dress in lighter clothes if it’s hot.

You don’t have to spend a small fortune on the latest high-tech or celebrity-endorsed athletic shoes. But it is important to purchase a quality pair of shoes that will provide adequate cushioning to your feet and not fall apart in a few weeks. Since your feet don’t leave the foot pedals of an elliptical trainer there’s little friction generated to wear the soles and heels down. A mid-range pair of running shoes or cross trainers will get the job done. This is where things are a little bit different between a treadmill and an elliptical trainer. And please, don’t ever use an elliptical trainer while wearing street shoes or even worse, going bare foot!

If you’ll be exercising on your home elliptical trainer, then fashion isn’t a high priority unless it’s important to you. However, if you want to dress to impress at the health club, then the sky’s the limit when it comes to choosing fashionable workout gear. The important thing is that you stay motivated to keep going with your exercise program.

The Smooth CE 7.4 elliptical cross trainer supports a remarkable 350 pounds and is built for those who take health and fitness seriously with its extra-heavy, welded steel frame. The ergonomic foot pedals move with your natural motion removing added stress from the ball of the foot, relieving pain caused by other products.

Smooth Fitness CE-7.4 Elliptical Trainer CustomerReview

I’ve had the 7.4 for a month and have found that it’s a great addition to my workout equipment which includes a Totalgym for strength and an Ablounger for crunching. What makes the 7.4 such a great addition? My wife is using it every day as well.

ASSEMBLY: The 7.4 comes in a very large box. It is well packaged for protection. Even though I could tell the box had taken a beating, the 7.4 was unharmed. Save the box for 30 days! After unpacking the 7.4, I found that assembly was made easier if two people are involved. You will at least need help getting the base section out of the box. It also helps to have a second pair of hands hold some parts while you connect wire plugs. Tucking the wires into the frame was a little difficult but I took my time. Assembly was not that difficult if you follow the directions. I did apply a small bit of lithium grease where the arms connected and backed of those bolts 1/4 turn while using Locktite on the locking nuts. Not seen in the photo is an electric plug attaches on the back end of the 7.4 right at the floor level. It’s a bit inconvenient in getting to it each day ad when you lift the back end to change the location of the 7.4. Lifting the back end of the 7.4 to move it is not very difficult. Small wheels on the front base engage immediately and the machine rolls with ease. You will want to plug the 7.4 into a surge protector according to the instructions.

ELECTRONICS: I was considering a treadmill with an iFit chip. The 7.4 does not use iFit but I think it provides all the features you would get anyway. It has several programed workouts including “random” as if you were walking a outdoor trail going up and down hills. It also has strength, interval, fatburn, and manual. It does ask you to enter your age and weight as it calculates your heart rate activity and calories burned. The iFit also asks for gender and height but I assume the 7.4 uses averages for this data instead. The 7.4 also asks what metabolic or “Met” setting you want. It has settings of 1 to 16. The instruction sheet says 1-3 are light indor activities while 16 is like a full wind sprint activity. That is, set it at 16 and do a 30 minute workout would be like running a marathon for 30 minutes.I have not used it yet for anything over a three so I have a lot of room to grow before I max out the 7.4. The 7.4 does calculate how many calories you are burning. There is a wireless heart monitor you can wear and the 7.4 will show you what percentage of your heart rate you have achieved. If you do not wear the monitor, you can hold the handles and it will read your heart activity there but if you let go of the handles, the machine resets the heart rate activity and it has to build it up when you take hold of the handles again.

EXERCISE: The movement of the 7.4 is smooth. The footboards move a bit by design to add to the comfort. I do not find them to be too far apart. My wife and I did try out some different machines on display at a local sports superstore and we came away satisfied that the 7.4 was well worth the premium price. The other devices we tried were jerky and uncomfortable. It’s hard enough to exercise… Having a jerky machine to use would probably take away your motivation or at least discourage you from a 30 minute workout. You get what you pay for so get the very best you can. The other machines were very complicated in their design with multiple pivot points. One even had roller bars that looked like a maintenance nightmare. The 7.4 has three pivot points on each arm. That simplicity probably has a lot to do with the smooth movement. The 7.4 is quiet. You can watch TV but I like to use a fan when I’m working out and it’s the fan itself that makes hearing the TV difficult. There is a small tray to hold a drink cup or and iPod. Your feet will like to slide forward on the footboards but the sides of the footboard trays will keep your feet from sliding off.

SPACE: It is big and long but you can tuck the flywheel in an out of the way area to best utilize your space. While the 7.4 is long, it is also narrow.

Report on the Proform XP Elliptical Trainer

August 16th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

As you proabably already know if you have been researching at home workout equipment, the various machines are pretty expensive. Elliptical bikes or trainers are no exception. A moderately priced elliptical bike can run you a couple thousand dollars. The Proform XP elliptical trainer is an exception.

The Proform XP retails for around $600. The best ellipticals run several thousand dollars so how does this economic model stack up? The answer is, surprisingly well.

Most customers are happy with it’s overall performance. There are some issues with design and functionality, but that is to be expected with a machine as inexpensive as this one is. Several reports with minor malfunctions when the bike is used at low settings, like one or two. The best way to combat this is to use it at higher settings. Several reports that the heart monitor is erratic and can’t be trusted to always perform accurately.

Some reports that the pedals broke after a short period of time. Most reports, however, say that the manufacturer fixed the problem. A lot of critics report other, more serious issues, but very few of these are substantiated by consumer reports. Most, we believe, are an attempt by rival brands to discredit this model.

Most positive reports mention good durability, reliable performance and of course, a low price. Overall, reports for this model elliptical are good. Do not expect it to rival a four thousand dollar machine, it is inferior in overall quality. But if you’re looking for a reliable, inexpensive workout machine, this one is for you.

Endurance E7HRC Elliptical Trainer with HR Control CustomerReview

Excellent product and service. Although this item arrived a bit later than expected due to shipping area/schedule, it did arrive in good condition. The first big excercise that I had with this machine involved moving it to my basement. Even after removing the covers and foot pedals, it was still a heavy task as the frame was built like a tank. After assembly, the unit was smooth. Even my sister commented that she liked this unit better than the one that she uses in the gym. The only issue that I had was that it was missing the heart rate chest monitor. I called Bodysolid about this. Not only did I quickly get someone on the phone, but they quickly shipped out the monitor which I received in about 3 days. As mentioned, overall great service and one well built machine.
