A Review of the Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer

July 27th, 2010

The Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer offers a starting price around seventeen hundred dollars, making it a machine that is typically geared for workout enthusiasts more than beginners. The price point is actually a bit of a surprise, given some of the features on the machine, and there are definitely numerous recommendations from users on this model. The e95 offers a total of 20 resistance levels and 10 different workouts designed to aid both the upper and lower body. The 20″ stride is more than sufficient to provide a real workout for all of the leg muscles and can provide many benefits for elliptical users with longer legs.

For many customers, the biggest benefit of this machine is that it has a power incline, which is a feature typically seen only on models with a much higher price. The incline can be set up to forty degrees, adding a great deal of intensity to any workout and working different muscle groups. The machine is very durable and can withstand heavy workouts. To help make these strenuous workouts more comfortable for the user, the machine also offers cushioned and oversized foot pedals. The added water bottle holder and iPod or Mp3 hookup can also offer benefit for people seeking a longer workout.

When reviewed, it seems that customers have very few negative comments about the Sole E95. The quality of this machine is quite comparable to machines found in higher end gyms, and the price point is quite low considering the available features. The machines tend to be harder to find around major holidays for just this reason. The machine offers an excellent warranty, including two years on service and lifetime on the frame. Few ellipticals have been introduced that can offer this power at such a price, making the E95 an excellent choice.

The Elliptical Machine is Not Great For Fat Loss

July 14th, 2010

So, you want to lose some fat? Are you spending 30+ minutes on an elliptical machine multiple times a week trying to burn the fat from your body?

Is it working?

Sure, you may have lost a few pounds, but my guess is that your progress has stalled. Well I’m here to tell you that the elliptical machine is not great for fat loss. I don’t use it, and I don’t tell any of my clients to use it. There are far more effective methods that will melt the fat from your body in less time. That’s right: it is possible to get more results in less time. You just have to know what to do!

I have a challenge for you. Just try it, because you have nothing to lose but fat!

Instead of spending 30+ minutes on an elliptical machine, try lifting weights. Yes, I know it sounds strange but it has never, and will never, fail. By lifting weights you will make your body build lean muscle. No, ladies, this is not going to be “bulky” muscle. Trust me, you want this to happen.

By building lean muscle, you will increase your metabolism; that allows you to burn more calories throughout the day and night. In addition to increasing your metabolism, you will build a toned body. An elliptical machine doesn’t do anything to give your body a tight and firm look. You have to build muscle for that.

Time and time again I have seen women (and men) spend hours a week on an elliptical machine in an effort to burn fat. A couple months later they are smaller, but they don’t really look any better. They just have that “skinny-fat” look. They’re smaller, but they still have a good amount of fat on their body. Since they aren’t strength training, they have lost muscle, too. Losing muscle decreases your metabolism.

To truly get that lean, firm, athletic look, you must lift weights. Instead of spending 30 minutes on an elliptical, try this: Sets: 4 Reps: 8 Rest: 60 seconds between exercises

1a) Front Squat

1b) Dumbbell Bench Press

1c) Reverse Lunge

1d) 1 Arm Dumbbell Row

Perform 8 reps of each exercise, and rest 60 seconds between exercises. Go through the circuit 4 times. That simple workout will get you on the fast track to a lean and firm body. That is something the elliptical machine will never do.

Look at it this way: who has a better physique: A) Marathon runners who spend hours doing cardio or B) Sprinters, gymnasts, or other athletes who engage in strength training

The answer is most certainly B. Muscle gives you a lean, athletic look. If you want that look, you have to train with weights.

Octane Elliptical – Product Review

May 30th, 2010

When buying a trainer it’s important to first figure out what you want, and

what features will be most beneficial to your workouts. The Octane

elliptical line has a large number of different trainers to suit a variety

of different needs, and their models are divided into home and gym. The

higher level trainers will be better suited to more serious exercisers,

while some of the lower end models offer many of the same benefits for

beginners.

Unlike most other fitness companies, Octane only makes elliptical trainers.

Many gyms use Octane trainers because they swear by their high level of

durability when being used by many different people each day. Octane

ellipticals are definitely one of the higher end fitness products, with the

price range being between $2199 and $3599.

Most of the Octane elliptical trainers are the same, with the only

noticeable difference being that the Q35 and Q45 don’t have the wireless

heart rate control. The Q35 has quick start, a quick change button so you

can alter your workout at any time, five different course options, a virtual

trainer to offer advice, and a cool down mode.

The Q35e has many of the same features as the Q35, including a quick start

option that remembers past workouts, a wireless heart rate monitor, varying

intensities, and a target for lower body areas.

The Q45 also closely resembles the Q35, but has additional features like

multi-grip handlebars, adjustable stride lengths to fit each user, and a

specific program for upper body workout.

The Q45e utilizes all of the above options but also has five heart rate

programs, a wireless heart rate monitor, and a cross-training program.

The Pro35 is a more advanced model with added bonuses not necessarily needed

for a workout, but more for comfort during the workout. The pedals are more

compact, and there is an accessory tray for water bottles and magazines.

The Pro350 offers things like 25 varying resistance levels, a heavier frame

for users up to 400 pounds, and digital heart rate sensors.

The Pro350XL has the highest number of features, with all of these things

plus a longer stride length and 30 resistance levels to offer variety and

challenge to any user.

Reebok Elliptical Trainer Test and Review

March 26th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Reebok elliptical trainer is an Icon fitness company product. Icon also manufactures and markets Nordic Track, Weslo, ProForm and several other fitness brand names. You probably have already figured it out that they have nothing to do with the Reebok shoe company other than the name.

Never the less a Reebok elliptical trainer may be a good piece of fitness equipment depending on the model and how it is used. As a rule we recommend that you spend at least $1000 or more to assure that you are getting a quality elliptical trainer. If you cannot afford to pay that much for an elliptical then you should spend as much as you possibly can or possibly better yet use the money to join a health club that has quality ellipticals.

We would also recommend that if you are set on purchasing a Reebok elliptical trainer that you consider the RL 1500. The list price on this model is about $1500 but we found several for sale between $1100 and $1200 new in the box. This elliptical has several good features including the ability to set a heart rate exercise program that is regulated by the heart rate monitor. In manual mode the digital resistance is very easy to adjust. As with most high end ellipticals the RL 1500 handle bars provide a good upper body workout making it a true cross trainer. Standard with this model are 15 workout programs to keep you from getting bored with your workouts.

Probably the best thing we liked about this machine was the smooth 20 inch stride. The noise level was considered only fair by our testers who each took this model for a 40 minute ride. Even our football player found the 1500 comfortable to use but he was not all that happy about the unit’s stability. Also the heart monitoring strap kept falling of his 56 inch chest which was called irritating.

Over all our crew of informal testers gave the Reebok RL 1500 a rating of 3.4 out of 5. We recommend that you take the time to take your own test ride before you purchase any piece of exercise equipment. Each person is different physiologically so it is important to find the best fit possible before you write the check.

The warranty on the Rebook elliptical trainer is 90 days which is typical for Icon products. We suggest that you spend the extra money and purchase an extended warranty whenever you purchase any exercise equipment especially if it is manufacture by Icon. However we would recommend this elliptical trainer with an extended warranty due to its features and smooth operation.

Review the Features of Elliptical Machines Before You Buy

March 23rd, 2010

So you’ve decided to join the latest health club craze and add an orbital cross trainer to your at-home routine? As you make your purchase decision on elliptical machines review which features you really need, and which are showy add-ons that you don’t need or won’t use. Home ellipticals can be the best addition to your overall fitness routine because of the ability to vary your training on the machine and because they work your entire body.

Which Elliptical is the Best? The popularity of the cross trainer has grown, and they are a mainstay in most fitness clubs. Cross trainers offer a full body workout in one machine, combining the best of running, stair climbing and cross-country skiing. These machines provide effective, impact-free activity that can suit beginners and seasoned athletes alike. But which model is the best elliptical trainer for your home gym? The following features of home ellipticals should be reviewed to see which would best fit your personal training goals.

Review Stride Length and User Weight Will others in your home use the elliptical as a part of their training also? If so, you should review their needs with respect to stride length, and weight limitations of the machine. An experienced runner will best benefit from the low impact alternative of an elliptical trainer, as will seniors in your home or others with joint problems or a little extra weight.

Compare and Review the Machine’s Elliptical Workout Programs Once you get it home, will you use it? The best advantage many ellipticals have, in addition to ease of use, is they offer ways to vary your routine. One of the main reasons people don’t use many machines for very long after purchasing, is boredom with the routines. Many trainers offer a variety of pre-programmed options to alter your workouts. You should review these programs. The better machines also allow changes in incline, intensity and resistance. Reviewers state that perceived exertion is lower when exercising on an elliptical. You may workout longer, because the low-impact of this trainer makes it feel like you are exerting less energy. With variety, and a total body workout that takes less time, along with a perception that you aren’t working out as hard, an elliptical may have a better chance of being used regularly in your home training.

NordicTrack C2000 Treadmill Review

March 5th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The NordicTrack C2000 Treadmill has a very impressive specification and is the cheapest on the market to our knowledge with an iFit SD card slot. You choose from a number of programmes depending on your requirements such as weightloss, improving fitness or body sculpting and then insert the card into the console.

The iFit programme now controls your treadmill and actually starts talking to you! Technology can be a wonderful thing and we feel this is a great feature to help you achieve your fitness targets – if you can used to the American accent, why don’t they do Brummie or Geordie :0)

Anyway, enough of R2D2, what about the treadmill? Well, as you’d expect from NordicTrack it looks very stylish almost to the point of minimalist. It has a good sized belt with plenty of width and feels comfortable and stable under foot. You can adjust the feel of the deck with NordicTrack’s Durastride slide cushion with 3 settings to replicate the sensation of the road through to grass.

The ability to change the shock absorption setting is very useful. If you’re overweight or recovering from an injury the higher levels help to reduce stress on your joints. As you lose the weight and feel more confident the lower settings could be used to prepare you for road-running.

The NordicTrack C2000 comes with 15 programmes that include weightloss, performance and aerobic options plus whatever you choose to add if you buy an iFit card. You can measure your heart rate using either the grips on the handles or use the strap included in the price.

The console has a good sized display which is easy to read, the controls are straightforward with one touch speed and incline functions. It has speakers and a USB plug for your iPod or for use with the iFit workouts. The 2.00 HP motor is quiet and according to NordicTrack can be run non-stop for up to 5 hours! That should be enough for most runners we think or for all the family to go one after the other. The warranty is excellent, it comes With lifetime frame cover, 10 years on the motor and 2 years full on site parts and labour.

The NordicTrack C2000 is no doubt a quality running machine with state of the art technology to help you reach your fitness goals. The motor runs like a dream and the ability to change the feel of the deck is a great benefit. We love the iFit SD card function and know you will too – if you can put up with the accent!

Nordic Track CX938 Elliptical Trainer Review

January 27th, 2010

The Nordic Track CX938 elliptical trainer is the entry level machine from one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in the world, Icon Health and Fitness. Nordic Track is a well-known brand in this market and has many elliptical machine models available for purchase.

The CX 938 is priced at approximately $600, and is similar to Reebok’s budget elliptical machine, the 525. When purchasing a cheap elliptical trainer you need to be fully aware of what to expect. Like any type of fitness equipment, you often get what you pay for, and this is no different with elliptical trainers. Having said this, the Nordic Track CX938 has some nice features, including an 18 inch stride, iFit compatibility, pulse sensors, and 10 built-in exercise programs. Furthermore the 1 year warranty on parts, labor, and motor will come in useful if anything goes wrong with the machine, although it is a good idea to purchase an extended warranty when buying cheap fitness equipment just in case.

For frequent use of an elliptical machine it is often recommended to spend over $1000 on a high-quality machine. The CX 938 elliptical trainer has a weight limit restriction of 250 pounds, indicating the structural strength of the trainer. For the average home user though this should be adequate. Like many machines of this price, the CX938 has the Silent Magnetic Resistance (SMR) as opposed to Eddy Current, which provides a smoother motion.

On the plus side, this particular trainer has an 18 inch stride which is suitable for most small and medium sized adults, and the fan system is good at cooling during a workout. The display console is also nice, providing details such as calorie burn, distance covered, speed, resistance level, and pulse rate.

Elliptical trainers are increasing in popularity as equipment for home fitness. As such, there are plenty of brands to choose from, all offering models with different features and at different prices. Reading reviews and comparing similar models is a good way to find the best elliptical trainer within your price range. For example, you may want to consider the ProForm 1280 costing around the same as the Nordic Track CX938 elliptical trainer, yet providing good value for money.

The Image 9.5 Elliptical Trainer – A Review

January 8th, 2010

If you’re after budget-priced exercise equipment, then the Image 9.5 elliptical trainer may be something for you to consider. It has a variety of programs, a fan and is readily available. Here is some more information on this machine.

If you have been searching for an elliptical trainer, then you know that they can be quite expensive. Many machines can cost over $1,000. So it is refreshing to see an elliptical like the Image 9.5, which has a full range of features but is selling for under $400. In fact when many people see it they think it could be a pricing mistake. But it is available from Wal-Mart at this price.

So how does this machine stack up? It is a rear wheel machine that has quiet magnetic resistance. The console has an easy to read back-lit LCD display and there is a fan built into the console. This is useful for providing some breeze during a workout, and is a feature often found on more expensive models. But if you are getting really hot while using the machine, a normal freestanding fan would be much more effective.

There are 10 different workout programs to stop you from getting bored during your workouts. In addition it offers the iFit interactive personal training program.

Feedback on the machine has been mixed. Although it offers great value, some people have pointed out some limitations. It has been said that the pedals are too far apart making it uncomfortable to use for extended periods of time. It has also been said that the build quality is not that good.

The Image 9.5 elliptical trainer would suit the novice or occasional exerciser that wants a cost effective machine to use at home. If you are at all serious about your fitness, you will probably want better quality piece equipment.
