January 27th, 2010The Nordic Track CX938 elliptical trainer is the entry level machine from one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in the world, Icon Health and Fitness. Nordic Track is a well-known brand in this market and has many elliptical machine models available for purchase.
The CX 938 is priced at approximately $600, and is similar to Reebok’s budget elliptical machine, the 525. When purchasing a cheap elliptical trainer you need to be fully aware of what to expect. Like any type of fitness equipment, you often get what you pay for, and this is no different with elliptical trainers. Having said this, the Nordic Track CX938 has some nice features, including an 18 inch stride, iFit compatibility, pulse sensors, and 10 built-in exercise programs. Furthermore the 1 year warranty on parts, labor, and motor will come in useful if anything goes wrong with the machine, although it is a good idea to purchase an extended warranty when buying cheap fitness equipment just in case.
For frequent use of an elliptical machine it is often recommended to spend over $1000 on a high-quality machine. The CX 938 elliptical trainer has a weight limit restriction of 250 pounds, indicating the structural strength of the trainer. For the average home user though this should be adequate. Icon also produces several other brands of fitness equipment including Reebok and ProForm. Nordic track elliptical trainers are considered mid range in terms of cost. Nordic Tracks most popular elliptical is the CX938 which retails for $599.99. In general we recommend that you consider purchasing an elliptical trainer costing at least $1000 to assure quality and dependability.
The CX938 Nordic Track elliptical trainer comes with the SMR or silent magnetic resistance. This system is relatively quiet and allows you to adjust resistance to ten different levels. In addition the CX938 also incorporates the Icon iFit system to provide you with a wide variety of workout programs. If you choose not to use the iFit system the Nordic Track CX938 comes with 10 built in exercise routines.
Also included with the Nordic Track elliptical trainer are larger or oversized pedals that make your workout more comfortable and less tiring. The CX938 comes with an 18 inch stride which will fit most medium and small sized adult users. One of the drawbacks of the Nordic Track CX938 Elliptical trainer is its weight limit restriction of 250 pounds. On the positive side the console relatively good fan system with multiple settings to keep you cool during your workout. In addition the control console is back lit and very easy to read providing feedback on speed, calorie burn, distance, pulse rate and resistance level. All of which help you monitor your fitness level. Some people have complained that the console is cheap looking but the Nordic track CX938 elliptical trainer does appear to provide all the necessary fitness information.
It is apparent that the Nordic Track CX938 elliptical trainer is not designed for regular intensive workouts. Relative low weight limit is an indication of the structural strength of this elliptical. We recommend that you make an effort to purchase an extended warranty whenever you purchase any piece of exercise equipment.
We do not recommend the Nordic Track CX938 elliptical trainer for people who are going to use it for very intense workouts that really rock the machine or who are tall and require a longer stride. However the Nordic Track CX938 elliptical trainer is considered a good quality medium priced elliptical that will meet the needs of most in home users.
