Ellipticals Are Better Than Treadmills

May 3rd, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Until recently treadmills have been used in people’s homes whenever the conditions out doors were not acceptable to run in. Treadmills are also available in every gym for indoor running as well. The thing about using treadmills is that people do not get the full benefit of exercising. The upper part of their body is for the most part neglected. So, after using the treadmills they have to use different equipment to exercise their back and shoulders as well as their chest muscles.

There have been some new developments made in the exercising industry. One such new development is a machine that is called an elliptical machine. These new types of machines work much better that a regular treadmill. Treadmills do not help people with arthritis except in the lower joints; an elliptical machine uses peoples own body movements to power them, this includes the upper joints and arms as well. For a picture of these new elliptical machines all you need to do is search the internet.

Elliptical machines require both pulling and pushing motions from the exerciser. This works the biceps and the back at the bottom and also the pulling motion works the upper extremities; so the chest, shoulders and the triceps are strengthened at the same time as the lower part of the body to tone a person’s entire body. This pushing and pulling of the Ellipticals lowers the impact and helps to reduce the chance of stress injuries much more than the treadmills do.”

There are several different types of ellipticals on the market right now. The ProForm 20.0 Cross Trainer is one of the most popular machines. This inexpensive elliptical machine offers a clear view backlit console, oversized gel grip pedals, an EKG monitor, it has an 18″ stride length, and a workout fan; it also comes with an audio system with two built in speakers, a music port, and you can also play fitness games. You get 9 cross trainer workouts and 3 personal trainer workouts, plus 2 heart rate workout programs.

There is even a Space Saver Elliptical machine, the ProForm Space Saver 850 will allow you to break it down and store it out of the way when you are not exercising. This is great if you do not have very much room to keep it out. It also comes with a workout fan, oversized pedals, a blue backlit display, and eight programs to help you achieve the best workout routine. This elliptical machine is even less expensive than the one mentioned above.

The Reebok RL 1500 Elliptical is durable enough to hold a 350 lb user. It also has oversized pedals, a heart rate monitor, a backlit display, and a 20″ stride length. You also get 15 different types of 1 touch workout programs.

If any one ever wanted to get great exercises and exercising programs the ellipticals are better than treadmills by comparison.

Robert Braun has been using, selling, and writing about exercise equipment for decades. For more information on treadmills, ellipticals, and home gyms, see Treadmill-World.com.

Which Ellipticals Are the Highest Rated?

April 1st, 2010

Ellipticals are usually rated in two ways. Many are “consumer rated,” which means they have been used and ranked by consumers or editors of consumer magazines. Others have been rated by members of the medical profession, for ease of use, best workout, and lowest risk of injury.

A number of medical doctors specializing in sports injuries and sports medicine approve the Precor EFX 546 and find it to be a better way to workout. The problem is, they can costs more than $5000. But if you cannot afford to pay top-dollar for an elliptical cross trainer, You should not simply purchase a really cheap trainer. Research all of your options first.

Consumer Reports magazine recently did a report and found that when it comes to elliptical trainers, you definitely get what you pay for. The editors conducted a test of ten elliptical trainers in all price ranges. The test results concluded that if you want the best workout machine and you do not want a lemon then you have got to spend money to purchase one of the upper models.

Prevention magazine rates the ProForm as best value in an elliptical trainer. The NordicTrack wins for most features, and the Precor EFX is the highest quality model, according to Prevention.

Good Housekeeping also conducted tests, giving elliptical trainers to staff members of different fitness levels. Models were rated for comfort and safety. The best model was determined to be the ProForm 800 CardioCross Trainer. In second place was the Stamina Conversion II Elliptical/Stepper 55-2050.

More information can be found in the reports themselves, including pros and cons of each model. But this overview provides a guideline that will help you pick the elliptical trainer that is right for you.

Elliptical Machine Workouts – What Are the Advantages of Choosing Ellipticals Over Other Machines?

February 3rd, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Admittedly, fitness enthusiasts have various exercise equipment to choose from nowadays. You have the indoor rowing machines, the treadmills, the stair climbers, the stationary bikes and the elliptical trainers. Of all these machines, the elliptical trainers are the best of the bunch for many reasons.

Low-Impact Exercise

We are all worried about lessening the impact on our joints. After all, stresses and injuries to these parts of our bodies will leave us feeling less than able to perform our daily activities, even something as ordinary as walking. And so, we always find ways to either choose the exercise with the lesser impact or make a high-impact exercise less injurious through proper attire, proper technique and proper use of equipment.

If you choose to go the first route, the elliptical trainer is the best exercise machine for this purpose. It is a very low-impact exercise because your feet never leave the comfort and safety of the foot pedals, thus, significantly lessening the load off the weight-bearing joints.

Whole Body Exercise

Unlike the other machines, the elliptical trainer provides for a total body workout. This is possible because your lower body is being exercised by the movements of the foot pedal while the upper body is being developed through the handlebars. Of course, the lower body takes most of the exercise benefits since 70 percent of the power to perform the exercise comes from it. The upper body provides the 30 percent, said ratio of which cannot be said of the exercise machines like the stair climbers and treadmills.

You may also choose to either concentrate solely on the lower body or increase the intensity of the exercise for the upper body. If you choose the former, you can do away with the handlebars, thus, placing more pressure on your lower limbs to carry the whole exercise. If you opt for the latter, then you can substitute the handlebars with hand weights for added weight. Just be sure to swing your arms in time with your steps on the elliptical machine to keep your balance.

Whether you choose to opt for a whole body workout or focus on the lower body or place greater emphasis on the upper body, you are assured that you are getting the best cardio workout possible. In the process, you are burning more fat and calories, toning more muscles and improving your cardiovascular health.

Lesser Perceived Effort

Furthermore, you get all the above benefits will less perceived effort. Simply put, it is the elliptical trainer user’s perception that he is exerting lesser effort on the exercise and yet somehow feeling the burn faster and more intensely than had he exercised on the treadmill harder and for a longer period of time.

The result is that you will be more motivated to put in the extra minutes and the extra intensity to the elliptical trainer exercise. Ultimately, you will benefit in the form of more fats and calories burned.

With all these superior exercise benefits that elliptical trainers provide, it is no wonder then that these exercise machines are considered the best in the fitness industry in its category.

The best elliptical trainer for you is easier to find than you think. Visit http://www.1-stop-fitness.com/ to learn more.
